Crowns and bridges

We can offer you a variety of different materials to suit the need of any situation. If you have a missing tooth we can provide you with a number of different kinds of bridges.

  • Conventional bridge. This has crowns or caps over the two teeth at either side of the gap.

  • Maryland Bridge. Instead of using caps over the teeth, this bridge has wings of metal, which are stuck on to the tongue side of the teeth. It is more conservative on the teeth but has a higher display of metal.

  • Californian Bridge. Wings of metal and inlays of metal are buried in the tooth and covered with porcelain, so there is less metal display.
  • Composite Cantilevered Bridge. A plastic resin is stuck onto one side of the teeth and shaped to look like a tooth.
  • Metal Ceramic Cantilevered Bridge. Instead of both teeth being capped on either side of the bridge - only one is, and the false tooth is internally welded to this crown. Sometimes a very small arm can project at the front to rest on a prepared site on the tooth in front if extra strength is required, but a second cap is still contra-indicated.
  • Hybrid Bridge. A crown on one tooth and a Maryland retainer on the other tooth is a very useful solution in cases where a second full crown would cause unnecessary tooth destruction and future cosmetic and functional problems.
  • Implant. The teeth on either side are untouched and a hole is created in the jawbone into which a titanium stud is inserted. The gum is covered and six months later a tooth is added and screwed into the titanium stud.
