We aim to provide the cutting edge of dental treatments available in Australia, United Kingdom and America which is reflected in the continuing professional development Craig, Ben, Matt and Leanne undertake at home in Australia and overseas.

All dental techniques are not created equal...there is a difference.

Many people think all fillings are the same. We know that this is not the case. As you may know, Joel and Craig take a lot of photographs of clinical outcomes for use in lectures, treatment planning and case presentations. Quite often our special techniques require extra steps, take more time and cost a bit more, but the results are worth it. You may be interested in seeing some of the work we have done, and how it compares, in the photographs below.

This filling (not done by us) fell out after 2 years. This is a very common problem with this type of filling. Two patients in the last few months have told us that they didn't want these fillings done because IT ALWAYS FALLS OUT'. For some techniques, this may be true, because they rely purely on bonding and not on mechanical retention. The staining around these fillings is typical of what we see with the usual techniques...weak self etching primers and lack of good mechanical retention will compromise the seal around the edge. In the early 1990s there was a trend to try to bond all fillings in without mechanical retention...there was a massive failure rate, which has since improved, but we still consider fillings that rely on bonding only to be a triumph of speed over quality and durability. Using an original technique developed in the late 90's at Shore Dental, this tooth was filled next to the gum. It has lasted 5 years so far, can not fall out, and has not stained at the edges as one would have expected by now.

This patient told us that the tips of these teeth were filled '2-3 years ago' elsewhere. There is severe staining and debonding, probably due to insufficient etching time or using a weak organic etch. The gold standard remains the inorganic etches, even if they take an extra step and a minute more. After restoration. No corners are cut when doing these restorations and the picture to the right demonstrates the long-term effect. We don't expect you to understand the technical details of different techniques but you can certainly see the effect on your appearance. The tips of these 3 teeth were restored 11 years ago at Shore Dental - in 1994. Even after 11 years they look very acceptable. The technique - inorganic acid etch, aluminium oxide particle etching, hydrophobic bonding - appears to provide excellent long-term results. It takes longer to do, but the result is that you get less staining, less debonding and less having to worry about your teeth.
