Dental bleaching, also known as tooth whitening, is a common procedure in general dentistry but most especially in the field of cosmetic dentistry.
There are 2 types of tooth whitening:
Take Home Bleaching trays
This is the most predictable and commonly used technique. It is undertaken using custom made mouth guards worn at night or for periods of 8 hours. The solution placed in the trays is called carbamide peroxide. The period of time needed to get a reliable, predictable result is roughly a 3 week treatment based on a 5 nights out of 7 philosophy.
In chair tooth whitening
This system is undertaken in the dental chair over the course of 90 minutes. It uses a stronger concentration or carbamide peroxide and usually requires a folow up course of take home treatment to achieve the optimal results.
