Replacement of black silver fillings with tooth coloured restorations.

This is a very popular service and there are many options. These days tooth coloured restorations do not have to be less durable than black ones, contrary to what you may have heard, and we have evolved a technique that almost eliminates any sensitivity.
Some examples of replaced fillings with tooth coloured restorations:

Gummy smile improvement

Some people show a lot of gum in their smile and this can look unattractive. The gums can be lifted back a couple of millimetres and the teeth shortened by a corresponding amount and it can make a dramatic improvement to your smile, if this reasonable procedure is done.

Gum Creation

Some patients have unsightly black triangular spaces in between their teeth. We can add synthetic gum adhered to the side of the teeth to close these gaps and to recreate the natural appearance of gum occupying the gap between the teeth.

This is not a commonly offered treatment option. However, it looks better than the example below using tooth coloured filling material and saves having gum surgery.

We can also do gum coloured fillings to avoid that "long-in-the-tooth" look.

An example of why a gum coloured filling would have looked better than this "long-in-the-tooth" look.

Before After - Not a good look

Before After - Using pink coloured composite resin. It is not commonly known that this can be done. Gum surgery has been avoided.

Smoothing down worn edges

A simple 3-minute job can sometimes make a smile look 5 years younger by just removing rough edges and irregularities. It is quick and easy and requires no injections.

Replacing exposed, worn, yellow dentine from the tips of the lower incisors

As the teeth wear the enamel is lost and the inner core of the tooth (the dentine) is exposed which is yellow and becomes more orange and then browner with age. Simply by drilling out the central core of this dentine and replacing it with white enamel make the lower teeth many years younger, in addition to provide a capping of a harder, more durable material.

Instant Orthodontics

Sometimes incisors can become twisted and we can re-orientate them by adding to and subtracting from the enamel and can create the appearance of a straightened tooth in 1 appointment, without involving orthodontic treatment.

Stain removal

Often stains build up around old fillings, and sometime the filling itself becomes discoloured and stained. We can replace old stained fillings with new invisible ones and we can remove all types of external stains, and sometimes polish the teeth to the extent that the stain will not recur.

Before - stained teeth After - stains removed, a common procedure...

What is not common is to improve the underlying problem, which is the surface roughness. The enamel is polished to a glassy finish to reduce future staining using special diamond impregnated rubber polishers.

Repair of Toothbrush Abrasion

Sensitive and stained notches at the gumline can be filled invisibly with highly polished, stain resistant micro-fill restorations. These are probably the best looking and most durable white filling that we can do.
